Assessment Topic: CPU Upgrade – RAM Upgrade
|
|
·
Not all PCs are the same.
|
·
Make sure you disconnect your PC from the
mains electricity supply before you start
|
|
·
As an added precaution, you might also
consider using a grounding strap, also sometimes called an anti-static wrist
strap. A grounding strap can help to prevent damage to your computer due to
electrostatic discharge (ESD) by safely grounding you while you work on
your computer.
|
Getting Started: Tools
*Philips-head
screwdriver
* ESD
wrist wrap
* Anti-static
bag
CPU and RAM Upgrade:
1) The first thing you’ll need to do when
upgrading your CPU and RAM is find your CPU, RAM and BIOS flash revision
information. This information can be observed during POST and/or CMOS setup.
|
|
Example of a AMI BIOS:
AMIBIOS © 2005 American Megatrend,
INC.
ASUS P4V8X-MX ACPI BIOS REV. 0701
CPU
Intel ® Pentium ® 4 CPU 2.60GHz
Speed: 2.60GHz
BIOS
63-0701-000001-00101111-07406-VIA-A0385000-VZKC
Press
F8 for BBSPOPUP
Initializing
USB Controllers….Done
Del
to RUN SETUP
448mb…Ok
|
2) Note that not all CPUs will be
compatible with your motherboard. To find a compatible CPU refer to the book
that came with your motherboard or the internet. (use caution with internet
sites for accuracy) - good
3) Note not all memory plays well
together. (For best results use two identical RAM modules)
Upgrade
CPU: remove old CPU and insert new CPU
Watch font changes. They can make the document
look unprofessional. Rule of thumb is use fonts like this for headings and use fonts like this for the body
of the text. I personally like fonts like this one. Another
rule is to use no more than 2 fonts per document…

Nice job. All the needed steps are here and you
add some good ‘notes’ of your own. This would not ‘print out’ well. You should
work on formatting. Observe some computer manuals and try and make your work similar
to those.
Score = 30
